Haiti: An Illustration of What Is to Come
The news is filled with scenes and commentary on the tragedy in Haiti. One cannot help but feel great sadness for the people there who have endured, and continue to endure, unimaginable loss and emotional pain. The Israeli ambassador to the Dominican Republic which shares the island with Haiti related horrors from his eyewitness account of that incredible calamity, "the likes of which I have never seen in my life".
But this cataclysmic event, and its repercussions, have spurred another thought in my little brain that I cannot expunge—and that is this: This cataclysm in Haiti serves as a minor illustration of what is to come. Minor? That’s right. The Bible describes horrific plagues coming upon the earth during the final seven years leading up to the return of Jesus Christ to the earth. One plague described in Revelation wipes out a fourth of the earth, while another wipes out another third of the earth. This means that those two plagues alone will wipe out more than three billion people (if they were to occur while the earth’s population is still at six billion)!! That means that while the destruction in Haiti has been awful, it represents a walk in the park compared to what is coming.
But we can salvage good news from that, which is this: God has made provision for a great escape from this coming wrath. I detail this great escape, which is available to all who are open to God’s magnificent gift through Christ, in Apocalypse 2012: The Ticking of the End Time Clock. (In the book, I also show that, amazingly, God has a good purpose for allowing the coming cataclysm to occur. In fact, because of His perfect goodness and His immeasurable love for people, He has to allow it to occur.)
The 2012 Phenomenon
As per the title, Apocalypse 2012 presents the 2012 phenomenon—predictions by many who believe the world as we know it will end on December 21, 2012—and provides analyses of those predictions. Interestingly, another 2012 phenomenon came up in a Washington Post article this week—but in a different way. Palestinians and the White House are aiming for the creation of a Palestinian state in 2012. However, Israel is not happy about this goal, because it sees it as an attempt by the Palestinians to by-pass negotiations for a peace settlement. This leads us to our next subject.
Peace Treaty
I accessed another article this week on the topic that the Palestinians are still resisting peace talks with Israel; in fact, they have abandoned talks with Israel. Specifically, Mahmoud Abbas abandoned talks.
So now, the U.S. is pushing for "proximity" talks, meaning that there would be no direct talks for now between Israel and the Palestinians. Middle East expert, Elliott Abrahams, claims that this approach is an admission of failure in the peace process. In addition, Professor Eitan Gilboa, a senior researcher at the Bar-Ilan University Begin-Sadat Center for Strategic Studies believes this new approach signals a failure by the Obama administration.
In addition, the U.S. is pressuring Israel to make more concessions, while the Palestinians do nothing. The Obama administration is backing the Egypt peace approach. The Egypt plan makes Jerusalem the capital of the Palestinian state even before negotiations begin! Moreover, this plan that the U.S. is backing would pressure Israel to pull back to its 1967 borders—that is, Israel would have to give up a lot of land and its defensible borders, which would make Israel a much easier target for terrorists.
But there is an additional problem that surfaced in articles this week: Hamas, the terrorist party which rules the Gaza strip—and is one faction of the Palestinians—oppose any kind of talks with Israel; and without Hamas on board, these talks will likely go nowhere.
Oh, yes, there is one other problem going on in connection with this peace process: the al-Qaeda philosophy is increasingly being accepted among the Palestinians. Of course, this philosophy says that it is better to kill Israelis than to talk with them.
So that is the cheery report this week on the Middle East peace process. But, actually, there is good news in the midst of this. God has shown us in the Bible that the future treaty with Israel will not be with the Palestinians. (That seems to be increasingly clear by observation!) Instead, that peace treaty will be a seven-year treaty between Israel and ten other nations. Eventually, and maybe soon, the U.S. will tire of this process and will begin to move back from participation; Israel will be open to other partners, having given up on the Palestinians; and the environment will change—quickly—to prepare for the treaty described in the Bible.
U.S – Israel Relations
Of course, pressuring Israel does not help U.S. – Israel relations, but what is even worse is what U.S. envoy to the Middle East, George Mitchell mentioned in an interview this week. Mitchell, who has been the Obama representative spearheading the peace process, mentioned the threat of sanctions against Israel if Israel didn’t fully cooperate. But, as if it could not get any worse this week, it did. The Obama anti-Semitism czar, Hannah Rosenthal, made a public slap at Israel by criticizing the Israel ambassador to the U.S. who had criticized a “radical, anti-Israel” American organization funded by Arab sources—an organization Obama’s czar used to be a part of!
One wonders if the relations between the two countries will continue to slide downhill until the U.S. steps away from Israel and the peace process, or at least hands it over to other nations. (I say this because the U.S. will not be one of the ten nations signing the treaty with Israel, although it is possible that the U.S. could broker that deal; but, in my humble opinion, that is highly unlikely.) The deteriorating relations could also lead to the Genesis 12:3 effect.
The Genesis 12:3 Effect
The Genesis 12:3 effect is the result of either being a blessing or a “curse” to Israel. In Genesis 12:3, God announced that those who bless Israel will be blessed, but those who “curse” Israel will be cursed. Historically, we have seen (over and over again) that nations who came against Israel experienced judgment by God. (In some cases, the judgment resulted in the disappearance of the nation altogether—such as Babylon and Assyria.) This can be seen with our Presidents since Harry Truman, who was the President when the modern state of Israel formed; those Presidents who were seen as friends of Israel were two-term Presidents, and those that were not friends of Israel were only one-term Presidents.
Interestingly, this was illustrated indirectly in an interview given this week by George Mitchell with Charlie Rose of PBS. Mitchell stated that President H.W. Bush tried to pressure Israel by withholding loan guarantees. Of course, that President Bush was not seen as a friend of Israel and was not re-elected.
The other President Bush (G.W.) was seen as a friend of Israel. However, during his second term, he violated an agreement with Israel regarding keeping its military ahead of its Arab neighbors qualitatively, meaning, he sold the same military equipment to Arab nations which the U.S. sold to Israel. In addition, the President began to pressure Israel to give up land to the Palestinians in an attempt to get a peace treaty brokered. As a result of actions like these, the President’s poll numbers dropped into the 30’s—a modern record low!
You are probably seeing the lesson in this: Don’t “curse” Israel. Do not renege on promises to Israel; do not publicly criticize Israel; and do not pressure Israel to give away land that God has given to the nation. The result could be a one-term President; but it could also be worse for the U.S. as a whole. (By the way, I wonder if our recent approach with Israel has anything to do with the U.S. losing its global influence? Hmm.)
Oh, yes, one other thought on this: Genesis 12:3 also speaks of how God would bless the Jews. The New York Times, this week, ran a great article on the amazing success of the Jews which, I believe, is one illustration of God blessing the Jews. It’s worth a read.
Trouble in Iran
The opposition to Iran's leadership is spreading in Iran. What started out as a grass roots effort, has spread to many of its religious leaders who are calling for replacement of its theocracy, meaning that they want a revolution of government ruled more democratically. This is huge, and it looks like it will result in the overthrow of the regime. In fact, the Wall Street Journal this week suggested that the U.S. may now be considering to help the revolution overthrow the Iranian government.
For months, I have been predicting the overthrow of the Iranian regime and have suggested that Israel may attack Iran’s nuclear facilities which could encourage the regime change. This week, a top U.S. military commander told CNN that Iran's nuclear facilities are not bomb-proof, something that Israel has known for quite some time.
I reported in this e-letter six months ago that an Israeli general had claimed that Israel knew where Iran’s nuclear facilities were being built and that Israel had the capability of destroying them. I have also been predicting that an attack by Israel, leading to a regime change, would set the table for a peace treaty between Israel and ten other nations. We’ll see. Things are heating up; so we do not have long to wait.
Update on Apocalypse 2012
Apocalypse 2012 has been type-set and has been sent to me to proof. Due to my time constraints right now, Cindy Mallett has graciously volunteered her time to proof it for any errors. Once that is complete, I will email it back to the publisher who will have the editing staff correct any errors and email it to me one last time to look over. Then it will go to press! So it won’t be long now!
I have already received reports of people ordering the book at Amazon.com. That’s fine, but they will have to wait until May 1st to receive a copy of the book that way. I will have a thousand copies by the end of February, so if you want copies earlier than May, send a check in the amount of $16.00 per book (along with $3.99 per book for shipping if you are outside the Marshall, TX area) to:

Thank you all for your support.
By the way, please pray for two things. First, pray that God would put a copy of Apocalypse 2012 into the hands of all who might be open to His truth, as I believe this book could eternally impact people and prepare them for the return of Christ.
Second, two VP’s at Outreach, Inc., a large Christian organization that markets studies, films, and outreach materials to churches across the nation, have visited with me about doing a project for them, and I will be hearing from their director of curriculum by the end of this month. The project involves writing a study on “2012” they could market. If both parties agree on the project, it could be big! And it could promote Apocalypse 2012 across the country! So please pray for that possibility. Thank you.
Keep looking up!
John
